Freedom's Threads

Worn United States military uniforms, parachute cord, fiberglass
Freedom’s Threads weaves over 100 military uniforms personally worn by persons serving in every branch of the U.S. military—including those in airborne units—dating back to World War II.
“When it comes down to it, it’s really about the material,” says Stenbom. “These uniforms are worn by service members, that’s what’s the important part of that and it’s their service that represents our flag and that’s why I wanted it to be in this piece called ‘Freedom’s Threads.” The artwork was originally displayed at the San Antonio International Airport in Texas.
Shaped by his experiences in the military, Stenbom uses his art as a medium for interpreting his thoughts and memories.
